Charles Riley Hedden, age 71, of rural Osawatomie, Kansas passed away February 24, 2016 quietly at Olathe Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Charles was the youngest of nine children born to James S. and Neva B. Adams Hedden on January 10, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was their first child to be born in a hospital.

Charles married the love of his life on January 18, 1964, Patricia R. Garr. They became the proud parents of four children Charles E. Hedden (Cathi) of Olathe, John Hedden (Tracy) of Gardner, Sandra Lucas (Clifford) of Fontana, and James R. Hedden (Charity) of Apple Springs, Texas.

Charles was an iron worker with Local #10. He worked for 30 years retiring in March of 2000.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and mowing grass. Spending time with his family was his favorite pastime.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters Lillie, Virginia, Mary Jane, and Violet.
He is survived by his wife Pat of the home; four children Charles, John, Sandra, and James; three sisters Margaret Everly (Tom) of Bonner Springs, Betty Russell (Paul) of Bonner Springs, and Billie Jo Foster (Melvin) of Tonganoxie; one brother James M. Hedden of Lawrence; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Charles at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 605 O’Neal Ave., Osawatomie, KS, 66064.
